Mr. Donald Geren is a CPA with over 40 years of experience.  He passed the CPA exam on his first attempt.  He also holds an MBA degree from DePaul University.  He started his own accounting practice in 1978.  Before that, he worked in private industry, with an international public accounting firm, and was also a partner in a Chicago area public accounting firm.

Concurrent with opening his firm, he began a career as a university professor.  He taught accounting at Northeastern Illinois University.  His main focus was financial accounting.  However, through the course of his career, he taught classes in cost accounting, taxes, and governmental accounting.  Mr. Geren retired in 2008.

Mr. Geren’s accounting firm has business and individual clients.  The businesses represent a wide range of enterprises.  They include retail establishments, professional services, real estate ventures, manufacturing, and wholesale businesses.  These entities are taxed as C-corporations, S-corporations, partnerships, sole proprietorships, and limited liability companies.

He also works with trusts and non-profit organizations.  His experience in these areas includes accounting and tax preparation.  The tax forms he prepares annually for these clients include 1041’s, 990’s, and 990-PF’s.

Mr. Geren also represents his clients before the Internal Revenue Service, when necessary.  He has handled everything from tax audits to simple responses to notices from the IRS.

He keeps current with accounting and tax issues by use of a library in his office, the Illinois Certified Public Accounting Society’s library, reading articles on the internet and professional journals , and professional seminars.
